Alumna Spotlight: Mrs. Temwani Simwaka Appointed CEO of NBS Bank
With great pride, The BANKSETA congratulates Mrs. Temwani Simwaka on her appointment as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NBS Bank. Her achievement exemplifies the impact of the BANKSETA African Expansion Leadership Programme, which continues to shape a new generation of banking leaders across the continent.
Mrs. Simwaka participated in the programme during its run from November 2018 to July 2019. Over eight transformative months, she joined a diverse group of delegates from various countries and banking institutions across Africa. In total, 60 leaders participated over the programme’s three-year duration.
Designed to prepare senior leaders for the dynamic demands of the African banking landscape, the programme featured immersive study blocks in South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, and Angola. In each country, delegates gained critical insights into regional trends, regulatory environments, and the future of finance on the continent.
A key component of the journey involved pairing each participant with a “Thinking Partner” — an approach that encouraged collaboration, self-reflection, and meaningful dialogue. Together, they worked on research papers, shared leadership insights, and tracked their personal and professional growth.
Core themes included digital transformation, inclusive leadership, and innovation in African banking.
The programme was built with a bold vision. To develop high-calibre leaders who can:
